Excursions in Calpe, Alicante

Calpe is large scale tourism with only Benidorm in the Costa Blanca having more high rise buildings situated in it. The main attraction in Calpe is defiantly the beautiful blue flag beaches with the golden sand and crystal clear sea water. The entire resort of Calpe is dominated by the huge Peñon de Ifach, an enormous Gibraltar looking rock which separates the two prime beach areas of the Playa la Fossa and the Playa Cantal Roig.

The Calpe Rock is a Natural Park which is the symbol of the whole Costa Blanca. It is about 332m high and extends for about a kilometer out to sea. You can climb to the top of the Calpe rock from the information office at its base but whether you'd want to in the summer heat is another matter!

Arriving on the coast road from the north you'll be joined with a selection of large supermarkets and even larger apartment blocks and hotels adjacent to the coast. These will cater for holidaymakers who come to spend their days on the long beaches Calpe.

Calpe's fishing port comes alive as the afternoon fish auction draws near. On the Restaurant terraces the costumers have the option to try some of the fresh local shellfish.

With its ideal location, near perfect climate and many other attractions, Calpe has proved to be a magnet for foreign tourists and homeowners as well. Thousands of British and German visitors have come here for a short visit and never returned back to their native land.

There are quality sandy Beaches, excellent shopping facilities and a wealth of bars and restaurants that offer every kind of local and international cuisine. People travel from all over the Costa Blanca to dine here in Calpe. Whether you want Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Lebanese, German or English food, you'll find it all here.

The town's most famous feature would be the Peñon de Ifach (the Calpe Rock). The huge rock rises 332 meters out of the Mediterranean, reminiscent of the rock of Gibraltar. The Peñon was declared a nature reserve in 1987 and now provides a safe place for a variety of birds and unusual flora and fauna.
